Stay away from anything branded as an "energy drink." Most of them contain 50 – 70 grams of sugar! That "energy" you get is a short sugar buzz that will wear out shortly after and leave you feeling worse off. Sugar free energy drinks are only moderately better.
Stick to water or gatorade for hydrating during exercise.

I have not experienced the energy drinks that you mention. However, most of these energy drinks contain high levels of caffeine and sugar which can be bad for my body.
The one I drink is different because it does not contain all of the caffeine and sugar or other ingredients that could be bad. I drink one every day and it helps me with my energy level. It works in minutes, lasts for several hours as it is more of a nutritional supplement.
If you are concerned about your health, you may want to check it out. I got mine at http://www.carlshealthhelp.com/energy
