Weight Loss Products-the Truth of it All

Weight loss products has become a monstrous industry that, in the late eighties, centered its sights on the easily led and desparate solution seekers in the fitness world. Over the last 20 years there has been amazing advancements in nutrition science. Some good and some not so good. We live in a microwave minded society of “quick, instant, and easy”. Our dietary lifestyles have seen the most dramatic changes with people being on the run with work and play like never before. One detriment is the long standing tradition of sitting down for several meals per day. We have transitioned to an eat on the run crowd and require convenience in everything in everything, including food. This led to poor food choices that has created a fat society. Now the weight loss products industry has come full circle. Eating healthy isn’t always quick and easy. The mutli-billion dollar weight loss products industry would like you to think so but as you’ve been told before-you can’t fool Mother Nature

If you’re one of the millions in this country who are into weight loss products such as diet pills, appetite suppressants, body fat burners, metabolism boosters, fat binders, diuretics, diet drinks, energy drinks, etc… and are routinely feasting on fast foods, you may want to reconsider this lifestyle approach. Looking at what’s happening in the body relevant to weight control, health and well being we’ll start at the point of origin of the natural energy production at the cell level.

Food that is consumed is broken down into its nutrient base and those nutrients are utilized by the cells in producing energy for the body to run on. The challenge we face today is that there are high toxicity levels in most all the weight loss products and fast foods on the market. The damaging energy frequencies, preservatives, and chemicals create these toxins. These toxins create a toxic “bio-film” buildup on every cell wall. This plaque-like substance causes an inefficient nutrient absorption process that often results in the body activating the hunger mechanism causing you to consume even more food to get the necessary nutrients for cellular metabolism. Do you now understand why people are gaining weight like never before and can’t ever seem to get rid of it? The hunger mechanism can’t shut off.

The typical result of the continuous hunger response if being compelled to eat junk food. When we eat junk food the toxins continue to build up around the cells walls and may lead to a lymphatic water build up around the cells. As we continue to crave more food we are in a never ending cycle that the weight loss product and junk food industries bank on. In fact, to speed up that cycle, there are addictive components in many of those products. Because there are preservatives, additives and chemicals in synthetic weight loss products, they actually contribute to this “catch-22″ self-perpetuating cycle. This industry marketing campaign is surprisingly effective, wouldn’t you say?

Let’s not overlook another weight loss methodology-diet pills. I have never seen this approach work. I remember decades ago women who had children would go to their physician for a diet pill to shed off the excess bodyfat that was acquired through pregnancy. These pills were mainly speed and elevated the metabolism via the adrenal glands. Not only are these pills dangerous, they are toxic. So you see that there are some viable solutions in the weight loss products industry but rarely ever when resorting to drugs or processed and chemicalized packaged foods.

So – what’s the answer? The true weight loss products are natural foods and organic foods. There are no gimmicks here. Fat burning is a nutritional biochemical function that requires feeding the body the vital nutrients is needs on a consistent basis so as to allow the body to burn body fat as well as food fuel. A readily available and convenient solution can be found in a quality all natural botanical based supplement that delivers the proper energy producing compounds that cleanses the cell walls and provides the key components of metabolic functioning.

Look to the Chinese as an example of a healthy culture built consuming natural plant based compounds that avoids toxicity challenges and delivers vital nutrients. Their day-to-day diets include such things as garlic, ginger and organic green tea (known to clean cell walls). Check out some of the Chinese Herbs that contain those components, as well as other natural ingredients that advance your health and well being. The information is easily available to you on the internet. When it comes to your health and well being, there is no such thing as: The Quick Fix!

Why Do I Crave Caffeine?

When you drink caffeinated drinks like coffee, tea and most sodas, the caffeine in the drink causes increased neuron activity in your brain, which in turn results in the release of a hormone we all know well – adrenalin.

This is exactly why caffeine gets us wide-awake and alert in the morning, isn’t it? Well, unfortunately it isn’t such a great thing for your body. As the adrenal high wears off, you start to feel tired, irritated, confused and may experience a headache. This usually results in reaching for another cup of coffee/tea/soda and the roller coaster ride starts over.

Is Caffeine Really Dangerous Or Addictive?

Because of caffeine, a negative roller coaster effect can occur by the release of adrenalin released by caffeine. Caffeine is very addictive. You create artificial adrenalin high by drinking caffeinated drinks, and then experience the withdrawal symptoms – which of course leads you to crave more caffeine.

Caffeine Health Effects:

Caffeine can cause alls sorts of damage to your health. Here are just a few of the undesirable side effects of caffeine on your health.

- The adrenal glands pump out stress hormones that stay elevated for up to 18 hours after consumption
- The liver releases higher amounts of sugar and fat into the blood stream.
- The pancreas produces insulin to remove the excess blood sugar and store it as fat.
- The insulin spikes create a blood sugar rollercoaster.
- Muscle tension is increased.
- The blood vessels constrict, reducing the flow of oxygen to important areas like your brain (up to 30%) and your extremities.
- Digestion and the immune system are impaired or suppressed.
- The production of DHEA and other anti-aging hormones is decreased.
- We lose Calcium and Magnesium by drinking coffee
It takes the body 24 hours to flush out the harmful effects of coffee (even 1 cup!), even though it contributes absolutely nothing to the total body chemistry and is harmful to the liver, kidneys, heart, bladder, digestive tract, bones, teeth, skin, growing fetuses and newborns.

The action of caffeine on the human heart is so stimulating and damaging that when a person has a heart attack, high blood pressure, kidney or bladder disturbance, normally their physician will prohibit any coffee or caffeine consumption.

What Can I Do To Curb My Caffeine Cravings?

The best way to curb caffeine cravings is to wean yourself away from coffee and caffeinated sodas. It’s not going to be easy and you will feel withdrawal symptoms at first, but here are some tips to help you kick the caffeine habit.

-Eat five to six small meals a day and include some protein in each meal. This will help keep your blood sugar stable and provide you with the energy to keep going all day long.
-Drink at least eight glasses of water. Water will help keep you energized
-Drink a glass of water or green tea (see below) in the morning to help you wake up.
-Get plenty of fresh air and sunshine each day. Use your usual coffee break to take a little brisk walk outside.
-Switch to green tea. In addition to tasting great and giving you energy, it is packed with flavonoids and antioxidants, both of which are beneficial to your health.

Start by cutting down on your caffeine consumption and replace as much of it as possible with green tea and water. You may experience a caffeine withdrawal headache, but this is normal and a sign that it’s working. Keep cutting more caffeine out every few weeks. Before you know it you will break the caffeine habit for good.

The Causes Of Childhood Obesity

Obesity among children is a national health crisis and a terrifying reality. It can cripple our country for generations to come unless significant changes are made.

Not all obese infants become obese children, and not all obese children become obese adults. However, the older one gets, the more likely it is that one gains weight. Our metabolism slows as we grow older, and we also become less active. In addition, it is very likely that obesity beginning even in early childhood will persist through the life span. In other words, if your 14 year old son is obese, it’s likely that he will carry the extra weight (and put on more weight) during his adult life.

For parents of overweight children, the time to help your kids get in shape is now or never. Obesity presents numerous problems for the child. In addition to increasing the risk of obesity in adulthood, childhood obesity is the leading cause of pediatric hypertension, is associated with Type II diabetes mellitus, coronary heart disease, increase stress on the weight-bearing joints, lower self-esteem, and altered relationships with peers. Between 5-25 percent of children and teenagers in the United States are obese, according to some studies. Other statistics indicate that 17% of children between ages 6 and 19 are obese.

Childhood obesity is the result of an interaction between food, state of mind, family and the environment.

An imbalance between intake and output.
Intake: excessive consumption of fast foods and unhealthy food choices. Output: less time spent playing outside, more time spent on a computer, playing video games or watching TV.

The Family.
The risk of becoming obese is greatest among children who have two obese parents. This may be due to powerful genetic factors, the manner in which the child is raised, parental modeling of both eating and exercise behaviors. One half of parents of elementary school children never exercise vigorously.

Low-energy Expenditure.
The average American child spends several hours each day watching television; time which in previous years might have been devoted to physical pursuits. Obesity is greater among children and adolescents who frequently watch television, not only because little energy is expended while viewing but also because of simultaneous consumption of high-calorie snacks. Only about one-third of elementary children have daily physical education, and less than than one-fifth have extracurricular physical activity programs at their schools. The American Academy of Pediatrics urges parents to take walks or otherwise get physical with their children at least once a week, to make up for shrinking levels of physical education in schools.

Fast food companies.
It is easy ad inexpensive to buy unhealthy foods from vending machines. The good news is that beverage makers have agreed to pull sugared sodas and whole milk out of all school vending machines over the next three years, as well as diet sodas and sports drinks from machines in elementary and middle schools.

Heredity.
Since not all children who eat non-nutritious foods, watch several hours of television daily, and are relatively inactive develop obesity, the search continues for alternative causes. Heredity has recently been shown to influence fatness, regional fat distribution, and response to overfeeding.. In addition, infants born to overweight mothers have been found to be less active and to gain more weight by age three months when compared with infants of normal weight mothers, suggesting a possible inborn drive to conserve energy.

3 Smart Ways to Live Longer

Have you noticed how most people only change the way they eat, drink and live when they become unwell? The sad fact is that this is the case for a lot of people nowadays. Individuals just don’t look to the future and plan to be healthy in five, ten or fifty years down life’s road, and all it takes is an hour or two of planning and dedication which could reap you years later on in life. Keep reading for tips on how to keep a healthy body and mind and how the old secret of steam and the new secret of steam showers can give you the relief you’ve been yearning for.

Health Tip 1: Eat Healthy

If you want to have a healthy body it is vital to watch what you put into it, making an effort to only eat healthy foods. As a general rule of thumb (which can’t be applied to everything), eating natural foods are healthy, and processed man made foods such as common junk foods are unhealthy. Eat vegetables, fruit, oats and lots of fibre as these foods are packed with vitamins and minerals which are vital for a healthy body. It is said by biologists that a body will rejuvenate itself every 6-8 months due to cell mitosis. It’s your choice. In 6-8 months you can either be made of cheeseburgers or vegetables: what sounds healthier?

Health Tip 2: Drink lots of Water and Get Sufficient Sleep

Approximately 70% of your body is made up of that clear liquid most of us take for granted. The body can only survive for two to three days without water, therefore it’s vital to keep hydrated. On August 3rd 2005, a Korean computer gamer died from exhaustion and dehydration after spending 50 hours playing Starcraft with little to no breaks, highlighting the importance of good quality rest and hydration. Drink 8 large glasses of water per day and get approximately 8 hours of sleep per night.

Health Tip 3: Use a Steam Shower

For those who don’t know what a steam shower is, it’s an enclosed cabin, made of acrylic or glass that functions as a normal shower. A steam shower also has functions of a steam room and in most cases it has hydro massage jets. A steam shower can be installed in place of any shower system as all it needs is a power source, hot/cold water feeds and a waste water pipe: everything a normal residential shower will have. Therefore it is easy to replace your normal shower with a steam shower.

Whilst eating, drinking and healthy sleeping habits are important, no matter how hard you try, the body will still accumulate toxins. It’s important to rid the body of these toxins, which can cause all kinds of ailments such as cancer. That’s where the steam shower comes in. The steam in the steam shower opens up the pores and stimulates the circulatory system. When the body starts to sweat, toxins are excreted in the sweat which reduces the bodies’ toxic burden, lightening the load on the bodies’ immune system. Having a steam shower in your own home is a fantastic way to relax and reduce the toxic build up in your body. Take a steam shower every couple of days and you will look healthier and feel healthier. It is possible to use a steam shower in health clubs, however, the most cost effective and effective way is to invest in a steam shower for your own home. The convenience, health benefits and value a steam shower adds to your house makes it a worth while investment for anybody.

A wonderful way to get a fantastic nights sleep is to put a couple of drops of aromatherapy oils in the steam shower, wait for it to steam up and then relax in the steamy aroma. Use a blend of lavender and rosewood in your steam shower just before you go to bed and you will sleep like a log.

Brief Summary

So there you have it, a few tips to stay healthy. As the article is brief, not all tips to stay healthy are included (such as fitness). Eat healthy, drink healthy, sleep healthy, exercise and use a steam shower. In 6-8 months from now you will be a new person, for good or for bad. Do all you can to make sure it is for good.

How to Increase your Fat and Sugar Burning to Aid Weight Loss

In order to carry through a successful weight reduction process, your over-weight must be attacked from several angles at the same time. Among other measures, you also have to increase your burning of fat and sugar. This burning is also of two kinds. The body are steadily burning fat and sugar and thereby producing heat, and it burns these nutrients to get energy for the daily activities you perform. The aim in a slimming process is to increase both these burning processes. In the terminology often used about slimming, this is often called “increasing your energy levels”.

A. THE FAT AND SUGAR BURNING PROCESS

The burning of fat and sugar is composed of many chemical steps. Fat is first broken apart yielding free fatty acids. The fatty acids are then broken further down to pieces called acetyl. The sugar is also broken down to acetyl in a process called glycolysis, and the energy thus released is used to produce an energy-rich compound called ATP. The acetyl formed from the braking down of fat and sugar is then further combined with oxygen yielding carbon dioxide and water, and even more ATP is produced. The ATP produced is then used to release heat and to give energy for the bodily work.

B. GET ALL THE NUTRIENTS YOU REQUIRE

The process of braking down and burning fat and sugar uses vitamins, minerals and essential fatty acids as working tools. Therefore your diet has to contain all these nutrients in the needed amount. Including vegetables or fruit in a natural form in every meal will help you get these nutrients.

Even though your generally shall reduce your fat consume, some types of food containing essential fatty acids should be a part of your daily diet, for example nuts, almonds, sunflower seeds, olives, olive oil and fat fish.

Extra supplements of vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids and lecithin can also be of help.

C. PHYSICAL EXERCISE

You should do some physical exercise at least every second day. Condition training like running, swimming, cycling or ball play consumes energy and thereby helps burn fat and sugar. The burning process even continues some hours after the training session.

Weight lifting or other muscle building activities are also of value. They help convert fat in your body to muscle mass and muscles are always burning some sugar and fat, even when they are not active.

D. USE OF DRUGS OF THE AMPHETAMINE GROUP

Amphetamine and related substances stimulate the activity of the central nervous system and thereby give impulses to increased external activity that consumes fat and sugar. These compounds also increase the metabolic activities that produce heat by consume of fat and sugar. These compounds can also reduce the appetite. All these effects can together help to reduce an excessive weight.

However, these compounds also may give many unpleasant or dangerous effects, like addiction, insomnia, agitation, manic reactions, hypertension, stroke, heart valve damage and heart rhythm disturbances. Therefore amphetamine itself and many related compounds are by now banned in most societies as a means to reduce weight. Amphetamine was early banned and classified as an illegal narcotic. By now also these compounds has been banned after having been on the market for some time: aminorex, fenfluramine, phenylpropanolamine and ephedrine.

Substances of this group available on the market today as weight reduction aids are: Phentermine, diethylpropion, phenidmetrazine, benzphetamine, sibutramine, rimonabant, oxyntomodulin and fluoxetine hydrochloride (Prozac).

E. USE OF CAFFEINE AND SIMILAR COMPOUNDS

Caffeine and similar compounds also increase the mental alertness, the feeling of energy and the impulses to external action, and thereby they also increase the burning of fat and sugar. They also increase the fat and sugar burning by accelerating the basic heat production metabolism.

A simple way of taking caffeine or the related compound teofylline is drinking a few cups of coffee or tea each day. A cup of coffee in the morning can and another cup in the afternoon can often give you the impulse you need to do an effective daily exercise session.

The tropical plants Yerba Mate and Guarana contain caffeine variants with a much greater effect on the fat and sugar burning than ordinary caffeine. On the market you can find sport drinks and slimming aids containing extracts of these plants.

F. SUPPLEMENTS STIMULATING THE THYROID GLAND

The hormones produced by the thyroid gland increase the basic metabolism and the burning of fat and sugar. A sluggish production of thyroid hormones can therefore contribute to developing over-weight.

Vitamins and minerals that the thyroid gland use as tools to produce its hormones can help to effectivize the thyroid hormone production, for example vitamin B1, vitamin B2, Vitamin B6, magnesium, manganese, potassium and zinc. Compounds being raw material for this production can also help the thyroid gland to effectivize its hormone production, for example L-thyrosine and iodine. These compounds are found in many supplements to aid slimming.
